Janet:

North Carolina was published on microfiche by the U.S. Geological Survey as
were most of the other states. A few were made available in print. The
gazetteers are also available on cd-rom and on the web.

Hello MAPS-L members,

I have a graduate assistant working for me who is diligently helping me to
reduce a cataloging backlog of old, original materials pertaining to North
Carolina. One of them is an old landscape computer printout of the
geographic features and place names on U.S. Geological Survey topographic
maps that the head of the department wanted cataloged until the actual
printed volume was issued. The volume was to be part of a title called The
National Gazetteer of the United States of America and it was supposed to be
published by United States Concise. The printout was generated in 1988, so I
thought, surely 12 years later, that volume is long out. Well if it is, I
can't find it. OCLC has some records for a handful of other states and there
are a few open records with no contents notes. I can find nothing in OCLC
published by United States Concise. I work on cartographic and related
materials only a small amount of my time and have the sneaking suspicion I'm
missing something here. Do any of you have any familiarity with this title?
If so, any information you could provide would be more than I know right
now. :-)

Thanks,
Jan
