Help!  A man just called and wants to know if there is a formula
for computing the distance in meters between "Point A" and "Point
B" if he knows the coordinates for each point.  Does anyone know?
This is beyond me.

Half an answer: Isn't there a formula in the Appendix of Robinson's standard
text, Principles of Cartography? I remember it gets fairly technical depending
on the latitude (or is it the longitude?). That and a good IBM computer and a
bottle of aspirins should do it.
