FIPS codes for the new europe?

Can anyone tell me whether there are FIPS codes for the
parts of the past USSR? I have been handed a set of
integer codes for various parts of the world and asked
to come up with codes for the emerging nations. I don't
recognize the codes that I am given, but wonder if a more
(most) inclusive standard that is in wide use might better
be substituted rather than patching the codes that exist.

If the FIPS or other codes are compiled on an ftp site I
   would appreciate a pointer.

   Thanks.
