In response to the Mississippi Delta (floodplain?) question, try the
 
USGS topopgraphic series.  By the way, if it is the floodplain you
are inquiring about, you missed the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin,
and Iowa.  Actually the mighty Mississippi River is IN the states of
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.  The floodwaters
in many places are well above the floodplains.  Lets hope the
weather cooperates soon and stops all the rain.
