The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for two
innovative, enthusiastic, and creative science librarians to fill
two-year positions. We seek librarians who combine skills in outreach,
technology, and subject expertise to help shape the future of library
services.

One science librarian will be based in C. Peter Magrath Library
(http://magrath.lib.umn.edu/) and report to the Academic Program
Director for Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Sciences. The
successful candidate will serve as liaison to the Food Science and
Nutrition, Soil, Water, and Climate, and Animal Science Departments.

A second science librarian will be based in the Science & Engineering
Library (http://sciweb.lib.umn.edu <http://sciweb.lib.umn.edu/>) and
report to the Academic Program Director for the Physical Sciences and
Engineering. The successful candidate will serve as liaison to the
Geology, Physics and Astronomy Departments.

Both librarians will engage with faculty and students to develop
innovative services to support their teaching, learning, and research needs.

Responsibilities include:

     * Serving as a liaison to the geology, physics and astronomy faculty
       and students, learning about research and instructional needs and
       developing new services in response. (Science & Engineering position)
     * Serving as a liaison to the food science and nutrition, soil,
       water, and climate, and animal science faculty and students,
       learning about research and instructional needs and developing new
       services in response. (Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental
       Sciences position)
     * Providing consulting services in the areas of scholarly
       communication, research support including data management,
       information literacy, and personal information management.
     * Integrating information literacy into key courses for
       undergraduates and graduate students.
     * Selecting and managing materials in all formats for assigned
       subject areas.
     * Offering general and specialized reference services.
     * Participating in system-wide activities of the University Libraries.
     * Special assignments will be made based on the expertise of
       successful applicants, particularly with respect to areas listed
       under Preferred Qualifications.

*Required Qualifications*: ALA-accredited Masters degree in
Library/Information Science; ability to work independently and in
groups; demonstrated success managing multiple projects; strong
interpersonal skills; flexibility and openness to change; strong oral
and written communication skills; an understanding of information
literacy; an understanding of collection development issues and
processes. *Preferred*: Academic background or library experience in
relevant subject area(s); instructional design experience; an
understanding of how to apply emerging technologies in a library
environment; an understanding of user needs related to e-science;
assessment experience; demonstrated creative approaches to marketing
library services; experience in support of academic journal publishing.
