We continued the discussion at the MAGERT Cataloging and Classification
Committee meeting, with some feeling expressed that it would be helpful to
have some guidelines laid out (like in examples or in an appendix to
Cartographic Materials) for those basic alternatives that Susan mentions
below.  The committee's new chair, Mary Larsgaard, is setting up a task
force to scope out the problem and present ways to deal with it.  She may
still be accepting volunteers to be on the task force (is that right,
Mary?), if anyone is interested.

As the discussion group leader, I can report that we came to no firm
conclusions. Libraries that take the one record approach have valid
reasons for doing so and so do the libraries that create separate
records for digital copies of their print maps.

I'm afraid I was too busy doing my best Phil Donahue impression to have
taken copious notes (the room arrangement was not real conducive to the
discussion). If anyone else has a better report, please post it!
