The British Library Map Catalogue on CD-ROM
              -------------------------------------------

As many of you will know, 'The British Library Map Catalogue on
CD-ROM' was published last year. It represents a *conversion* of 19
volumes of printed catalogues (including those for manuscript maps)
combined with the 1975- automated map file. The CD contains almost
     200,000 records.

To enable full benefit to be obtained from the CD's extensive (and,
in some cases, original) functionality, it is accompanied by a
61-page 'Searching' pamphlet. For some time, users of the CD in the
Maps Reading Room in the British Library have been encouraged to take
away copies of a four-page 'brief and selective guide' to using the
CD. This has now been mounted on the web, from which it can be
     freely downloaded:

         http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/cdhelp.html

Reviews of the CD have so far appeared in the International Map
     Collectors' Society Journal, Mercator's World
     <http://www.mercatormag.com/502britlib.html> and the Portolan.

For information about purchasing the CD, contact Primary Source Media
     <http://www.psmedia.com>.

     --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those attending the IMCoS Fair in London this Sunday (4 June) will be able
to see the CD being demonstrated
