Interesting color maps and one aerial view of the Everglades are to be
found in today's Science Times section of the New York Times. The
major feature story is about the 20-year, $ 8 billion effor to restore
natural water flow. The images may well be available on the NYTimes
website, but are probably not downloadable...

In addition there is a review of an exhibit at the National Portrait
Gallery, in Washington, D.C., of portraits of early American
scientists, and their scientific instruments which also appear in
their portraits. The exhibit has both the portraits, and original
instruments or models on display. Sounds cool. Ben Franklin is the
star, and his friends and their portraits make up the exhibit. Haven't
yet made it down to see the exhibit, which closes Sept. 6, but I
suspect there might be portraits of more than one mapmaker.
