The National Library is in the process of cataloguing and digitising its
Imperial-scale topographic series of Australia and PNG.

These series were mainly produced during WW2.

We are cataloguing the sheets individually, and attaching scans of the
maps to these records. All individual records are also linked via a
two-way hyperlink to a parent series-level record with a graphic index
attached.
Thus from the parent record you can click the link to get a list of all
the individual records.
and from the individual record, you can click the link to get the parent
record and index.

Progress to date:

Australia
***********

8 miles to 1 inch.
-------------------
- Rapid WW2-era mapping of unsettled areas: outback WA, SA, all of NT,
and Cape York in Qld.
- All sheets catalogued individually.
- All sheets except one scanned and attached to records (multiple states
of some sheets)
- 2-way link to Series record with index.
- Series record http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1657707
- Individual records (alphabetic order)

4 miles to 1 inch
------------------
- Only some individually catalogued. With several editions/states of
some sheets (war-era, provisional, R501,... editions), ensuring proper
bibliographic control will take some time.
- series record with attached index

2 miles to 1 inch.
-------------------
- 8 sheets known to exist.
- We have catalogued and digitised 6. 5 of these are simply reductions
of 1" maps, so the text and detail is very fine. In contrast the Lake
Colac sheet was produced directly at 2 mile scale
- All sheets catalogued individually.
- All sheets except one scanned and attached to records.
- 2-way link to Series record with index.
- Series record http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/4970017

WE ARE INTERESTED TO KNOW OF ANY OTHER SHEETS IN THIS SERIES

(we also have a second 2-mile series, field sheets used in the
compilation of the 1:253,440 series. There are 4 quarter fieldsheets per
253k sheet.
We have only 8 of these, covering all of two 253k sheet areas in central
SA (Coober Pedy and billa Kalina). They have also been catalogued and
scanned.
