The School of Surveying and Land Information offers the only three-year Bachelor
of Science (Cartography) degree in Australia and the only four-year Bachelor of
Surveying degree in Western Australia.  In addition, it offers a range of
graduate courses leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree.  The School
comprises 12 full-time academic staff and over 200 undergraduate and graduate
students.
 
Staff and graduate students are actively engaged in a broad range of research
and development activities, which are funded by both industry and government,
including joint ventures with other tertiary institutions and CSIRO.  Research
interests in cartography include such areas as visualisation, cartographic
communication, multimedia, computer assisted cartography, geographic and land
information systems, land planning, photogrammetric mapping and remote sensing,
and environmental management.
 
Applications are invited for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer who will participate
in teaching, research and consulting activities within the School.  The
appointee will be expected to hold, or be in the process of completing a PhD in
Cartography, Geography, Surveying or closely related field, and be able to
contribute to teaching at the undergraduate level in the areas of computer
assisted cartography, GIS or digital mapping.
 
The appointee will be expected to carry out research in an appropriate area, to
supervise graduate students and to liaise with industry and the profession.
Appointment at Senior Lecturer level will require substantial experience in
university-level teaching, a strong publishing record, experience with graduate
supervision, and the ability to provide research leadership in an appropriate
specialist field.

General Information
Salary Range:  Lecturer $42,198 - $50,111; Senior Lecturer $51,692 -
$59,605 per annum.  The total employment cost, including superannuation (SSAU)
is Lecturer $52,326 - $62,138, Senior Lecturer $64,098 - $73,910 (Aust), which
is available for repackaging through the University's remuneration packaging
service.  Limited private consulting opportunities will also be available in
accordance with University regulations.  Limited Term appointments are available
initially for up to three years:  appointment(s) for a further four years may
follow.  Conditions for interstate and overseas appointees include airfares and
removal assistance.  Curtin reserves the right to appoint by invitation.
