Thanks to Jimmie Lundgren who posted last week about the discussion
paper (2006-DP01) about adding geographic coordinates to MARC authority
records. As you might expect, that is probably the paper that is of
chief interest to the cartographic community.

There are a couple of other items coming before MARBI that people might
be interested in expressing an opinion on.

Proposal 2006-03 (Standardized terminology for access restrictions in
field 506 in the bibliographic format) comes from the DLF/OCLC Digital
Registry Working Group. The concept behind the proposal is to have a
standard subfield in field 506 (restrictions on access) to help with the
creation of a Registry of Digital Masters that is being devised by the
working group sponsoring the proposal. They propose adding a subfield f
and providing a controlled list of access terms for the subfield. They
haven't fully discussed the list of terms yet, but the examples given in
the proposal have a digital slant to them.

There is another discussion paper that might be of interest. 2006-DP03
comes from the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, Task Group on the
Function of the Authority File and discusses the incorporation of former
heading information in authority records. Currently, the former heading
is not always recorded in the authority record for the new heading
(particularly in subject and personal name authority records).

Let me know if you have any thoughts or comments on these.
