Regarding Land Use, Land Cover -
 
TruVue Corp has the entire USA available as an off-the-shelf product.  The
dates are more current then you were requesting - 1992-1994.
 
The themes include forest, grassland, water, dense urban, urban suburban,
highway corridors and airports.  The resolution is 25 meters.  Positional
Accuracy: 1:100,000 NMAS.
 
The product is called "CoverVue" and the entire bundle includes CoverVue,
OverVue (the true color base image), DLG, Digital Elevation Model, feature
data base &  TruVuer (viewing and file management software).
 
Price:          Large areas are as low as $1.10 / sqmi
