The 2000 National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Cooperative Agreements Program (CAP) application materials are now on-line at

http://www.fgdc.gov/funding/cap2000.html

The purpose of this program is to improve the ability and efficiency of GIS organizations to discover, share, maintain, and utilize geospatial data in conducting their business. Funding will be awarded in five program categories: (1) assistance in implementing metadata, (2) development of ISO metadata software, (3) development of ISO metadata training, (4) development of interoperable web mapping, and (5) demonstration of framework collaboration.

The announcement of a sixth category; Joint U.S. and Canadian Framework Collaborative Project is pending and should be announced in the next two weeks.

The open period for submission of project proposals closes Tuesday, April 25, 2000.

All application materials are available on-line and can be downloaded. Applicants are encouraged to access and download materials from on-line rather than requesting hardcopy documents via the slower mail. However, if you need the hardcopy documents the contact information is in the announcement document.

Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the 5 CAP funding categories and the NSDI background information.

Background information the topics covered by the CAP can be found at the FGDC website http://www.fgdc.gov
