Hello Brian

I do not have a source for purchasing these maps but I can give you a
little
bit additional information. The Japanese Imperial Land Survey maps of
Korea
were done between 1917-1936. The were later printed and partially
revised
by aerial photographs when published in the US in 1945 by the then Army
Map
Service (NIMA) This was their Series L751 Most of these maps have the
Japanese names in parentheses. Some of the later additions were in
English
and Korean. Our depository copies of these maps came directly to us
from
the Army Map Service as loose maps.

While we have a set of the North Korea topographic maps in atlas form,
we
have never seen the JILS series in book form. Good luck in your search.
Helen

I have been asked by one of our teaching staff if our library can
purchase a
volume of topographical maps of Korea. According to the verbal
information
given to me (which is fairly vague) the maps were at a scale of
1:50,000,
and were originally printed by the Japanese government when Korea was
part
of the Japanese Empire (1910-1945). The maps have been reprinted, in
the
form of a book, edited by Professor Young-Woo Nam.

If anyone knows of this volume, and can supply the full bibliographical
details, that would be very much appreciated. If the cost is known as
well, that would also help.

Many thanks,
Brian Marshall
