Important Change Notice for Webmasters:

==========================================

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) online (Web) service has
moved to a new server at:

http://geonames.usgs.gov

This new Web site and service will host not only heavy-traffic GNIS Web
service, but a consolidated set of pages about the Board on Geographic
Names (BGN), toponymy, general information on geographic names, and related
topics as well.

We request that Webmasters please update any links beginning with either of
the following two URL bases:

http://mapping.usgs.gov:8888/ ...

http://www-nmd.usgs.gov:8888/ ...

Please be aware that if your site contains any embedded queries, it will
not be sufficient just to change the server name from "
mapping.usgs.gov:8888" to "geonames.usgs.gov". The (virtual) path names
used in queries have changed (as we have advanced from Oracle's OWS to
Oracle's IAS application server), as have the names of the query procedures
themselves. Please visit the new site and use the query forms if you need
to determine the new query paths and procedure names.

Thank you.
