The H.M. Gousha maps were finally taken over by Rand McNally in the mid 1990s after several in between companies.  Most of their archives went  to the Newberry Library.  I would contact the  reference people at the Newberry History of Carrtography center.  This question about copyright has come up a number of times since Rand McNally purchased them.

A scholar wishes permission from the copyright holder to reproduce a 1938 Gousha road map for a
travelling exhibit.

She is going to submit a request through our Copyright service and they will try to find out if anyone acquired rights to Gousha publications.  Has anyone taken this path in recent years, and if so what happened?  Does some entity hold copyright on Gousha products?
