There is a series of maps of rivers in Vermont referenced in Serial set
volume 9387 of the US

Serial Set...H.Doc. 785.

The document title of interest is “Winooski River, VT. Letter from the
Secretary of War transmitting Report from the

Chief of engineers on Winooski River, VT, covering navigation, flood
control, power development and irrigation” (1931)

According to Appendix J of that volume, the maps were on file at the
United States district engineer office at 39 Whitehall Street, in New
York City.

The appendix states “the original maps are in the form of field drawings
on process cloth and most of them

Are available for blue printing. The office reproductions are on tracing
cloth. The maps may be consulted or copies obtained at the above office”

I’m assuming the Corps did a survey on the feasibility of a dam.

We have a professor here who is trying to track down the maps detailing
the Winooski river. The serial set volume has some plates of the
Winooski , but our patron wants some maps listed

In the Appendix,

Specifically the desired maps are

_Original Field Maps _

Winooski River, Topographic sheets :

2 topographic sheets, East Montpelier dam site 1, 23x30, 1, 19x29

4 topographis sheets, East Montpelier Reservoir, 30x42; 30x54; 30x72; 30x156

_Strip surveys by USGS_

Winooski River

1 topographic sheet, above Montpelier to Cabot 22/28

East Montpelier reservoir.

I’ve asked for assistance from the Corps of Engineers Library, as well
as the National Archives.

The Vermont Geological Survey was unaware of the existence of these
maps, and now are very interested.

I’m wondering if somewhere there might be reproductions of these maps.
Leads for aerial photos from this same

project would be terrific as well.

Would anyone have any suggestions for me?

Many thanks,

Lise Ewald
