------------------
Colleagues,

I am curious as to what Datum was used before 1927 by the U.S.
Geological
Survey for its topographic surveying program.

Looking at the 15' Bement Quadrangle, Illinois from 1955. It has the
following two statements "1927 North American datum" and "Datum is mean
sea
level." Prior to 1927, 15' quads just have one statement such as "Datum
is
mean sea level." Anyone know what was going on there?

Best wishes,
Scott R. McEathron
