Gee, David, I realize this is not a direct answer to your question, but...
 
Using transparancies in place of wall maps would allow your friend to
flip easily back and forth between "maps" without the hassle of managing
the actual maps.  Has he considered that idea?   Slides have much greater
resolution than PC displays, at least this year.   Dave
