At the time the discussion began on this topic, I was gone so hopefully
this has not already been said. The OS Great Britian Atlas on CD-ROM was
purchased a few months ago by the University of Florida Map & Imagery
Library. It has become very popular for both research and travel by our
students and faculty. We have been purchasing most of the country and
state atlases that are produced in digital form. This is one of the best
we have seen. The graphics are excellent and it really is "user friendly".
The maps can be enlarged to show extensive detail. If you used all of the
layers at one time the area might look cluttered. However, selecting only
a few like roads and tourist info. will provide you with an excellent map
to travel between cities. There are city plans but as of yet I have not
worked with any but London. However, the patrons seemed satisfied with
city maps they found. There is agreat deal of textual information available
also. Of course you can printout quality maps if you have a decent color
printer.

We purchased our copy from MapLink which Lisa mentioned earlier sells it
for $49.95. I am unware of its cost from the Ordance Survey. We are
definately happy we purchased the CD-ROM and thought it was a remarkable
bargin for its price.

Just a side comment for those of you seeking maps of places mentioned in
literature. This CD-ROM has been used extensively by classes and TV/Movie
audiences. There has been a rush to find sites mentioned in the two
Jane Austin movies and books, Bronte's Wuthering Heights and alot of
British detective stories.
