DEPARTMENT OF GEODETIC SCIENCE AND SURVEYING
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
 
CARTOGRAPHY / GIS FACULTY TENURE-TRACK POSITION
 
The Department offers programs in geodesy, mapping and land information
science, photogrammetry, and surveying and seeks to fill a tenure-track
faculty position in Mapping and Geographic Information Science.
 
Major Responsibilities
1.      Participate in the development and teaching of advanced graduate
courses in analytical cartography, computer-assisted cartography,
topographic map generalization, and computerized land information systems.
2.      Advise and guide graduate students in their studies, thesis and
dissertation research.
3.      Assist in our undergraduate program in Mapping and Land Information
Science.
4.      Pursue significant and scholarly research.
5.      Supervise laboratory support staff.
6.      Foster interdisciplinary research both within the department and
the university through cooperation with cartography/GIS faculty in other
departments and centers.
 
Qualifications
1.      PhD or equivalent.
2.      Specialization in cartographic theory with emphasis on analytical
cartography, including topographic map generalization and automation;
spatial statistics and analysis; and innovative applications of geographic
and land information systems.
3.      Familiarity with related areas such as geodesy, photogrammetry,
remote sensing, and/or computational and differential geometry.
4.      Ability to teach well at the university level.
5.      Evidence of ability to attract sponsored research.
6.      Commitment to scholarly achievement and public service.
 
Employment Conditions
A nine-month full-time appointment with possible summer employment.  Salary
and rank commensurate with qualifications.

Desirable starting date: Autumn Quarter 1996 (mid-September).
