Not sure if I saw any replies to your query last week so I guess I'll
respond to the catalogers group question.

I believe what we are to do is to provide the correct coordinate values
in the appropriate places (255 and 034 fields) and then provide a note
indicating the error, which if done will also assist the Reference folks
to share that tidbit of knowledge with the user. While I'm not finding
something that specifically covers this situation as I peruse chapter 3
of /Cartographic Materials/ at this moment I do find, on page 3-15 under
item #8 a similar circumstance having to do with historical maps where
it specifies using the modern coordinates for the map if the coordinates
on the map are "distorted or inaccurate" and so there's something to
hang my opinion on for now....
