I am pleased to announce the public debut of Coordinates: Online
Journal of the Map and Geography Round Table of the American Library
Association. The home page can be found at
http://www.sunysb.edu/libmap/coordinates.htm

Coordinates consists of two series of individually paginated
articles, rather than the more conventional format of a journal divided
into volumes and issues. Series A consists of "original peer reviewed
articles." Series B consists of "essays, project reports, technical
notes, republished articles, and other materials of interest to the
cartographic community." Our initial "issue" is made up of four
articles, including pieces by Mark Monmonier and David Rumsey, both of
which should be of widespread interest. In the future we plan to
publish articles individually as received.

Although Coordinates is published by map librarians of the American
Library Association, we intend to serve a much broader audience. We
plan to publish a wide range of articles dealing with the history of
cartography, GIS, maps on the Internet, map interpretation, map
librarianship, and other subjects related to cartography.
Contributions are invited from all interested persons, regardless of
professional affiliation.

More detailed information about the objectives of the journal and
procedures for submission of articles is available on the Coordinates
home page.
