I'd like to know if you were able to use figures for employed persons only, or did the stats include unemployed? And what age ranges were included?

Subject: Map of Gender Pay Gap in the United States

Hello,

Recently, I saw a colleague helping a student access income data in American FactFinder. One of the items he pointed out was the pay gap between men and women. Of course, the first thing that I thought of was to make a map showing this information.

So, I downloaded income by sex data for US Counties from the Census Bureau, pulled the data into ArcGIS, used ArcGIS to calculate the gender pay gap in the US and then mapped the data. You can view a copy of the map at:

If you are wondering, the pink areas are places where women make more than men. There are 20 of those places in the Continental US and 6 in Alaska.
