20 years ago the first issue of 'Cartographica Helvetica', the leading German-speaking journal on the history of cartography, was
published. The editors and the publisher are delighted to be able to celebrate this jubilee: 40 issues with 188 feature articles
written by 134 authors. All in all 2172 pages on the history of cartography in Switzerland, Europe and the entire world have been
published. The editors and the publisher say 'thank you very much' to all subscribers and readers.

In order to make the journal more widely available and to support research, Cartographica Helvetica has been scanned and converted
into searchable full text during summer 2009. The digitized journal has been published by the 'Swiss Electronic Academic Library
Service'. However, the two latest issues will only be available with a delay of twelve months. The following main features are worth
mentioning:

- a simple Google-like full-text search
- users can refine their search by using different filters
- it is also possible to browse the contents of the issues
- every page and every article can be downloaded as PDF file
- the entire user interface is available in English, German and French

The service is available for non-commercial teaching and research, as well as for private use free of charge. To enter the service
please go to our web site www.kartengeschichte.ch and follow the links.

Best wishes
Markus Oehrli
(technical manager of www.kartengeschichte.ch, on behalf of the editors and the publisher of 'Cartographica Helvetica')
