I had a request the other day from a patron seeking biographical
information on one Peter Kolb(e)(en)-1675-1726. I have only been able
to find references to him in 2 places-Tooley's Dictionary and a
bibliography of Africa and Southern Africa in printed books,1550-1750.
He's listed as an astronomer and meteorologist and is known for his
Description of the Cape of Good Hope (6 maps)-1727. This was followed
by a German, French and English edition. This was accompanied by his
book The Present State of the Cape of Good Hope (translated). I believe
he's Dutch but am not sure. Any help and/or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
