I have a couple more questions to ask, after hearing from many of
you and visiting map library websites.

1) Does any map library use offsite storage?

2) Do you have much recall for the maps sent to storage?

3) What schedule do you follow for nautical charts? Keep all
editions? Follow a 5 or 10 year plan for selective holdings? Limit
areas retained?

A pattern seems to be emerging in "common practice" with regard to
offsite storage of maps. These questions will very much help me to
understand and then report back to you the current policies, and
hopefully give you a basis for making a point with your
administration when storage issues arise.

Thank you for taking the time to report.
