Here at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, we receive
topographic maps for California, Oregon, Alaska, Washington, and Montana.
We retain all editions of the maps for access to historical research by our
faculty/staff and students.

The only time we ever discard is if we have an exact duplicate, but even so,
I keep duplicates for my home state because of heavy use.

Our topographic maps collection does circulate. Lots of our patrons use it
to go on hiking trips or class field trips so circulating them makes sense
to us. I keep both old and new maps in the same case. They are there in
alphabetical order by quadrangle name.

We are still doing a recon of the topo. maps collection. All the Washington
State topo. maps have all been placed on the online catalog monographically
and I believe the Oregon topo. maps are nearing its end. There is still
more work to be done of course (job security for our tech people). We
recently made a housing agreement where we become the regional depository
for Idaho, Oregon, and Montana maps for the state of Washington and Alaska.
So, basically, we are keeping all editions.
