I saw this in the latest highlights and thought you might want to see it:

USGS Photographic Library in the News: The USGS Photographic Library has
received a lot of special attention lately. First, in an article to be
published in the September/October issue of Rocks & Minerals Magazine, the
Photographic Library collection will be highlighted, and just in time for
the annual Denver Gem & Mineral Show. Along with mainly historic images,
over 1,000 mineral specimen photographs donated by Brigham Young
University and the former Bureau of Mines has helped the on-line photo
collection to grow to nearly 37,000 images. Another source for kudos is
the American Library Association (ALA) American Libraries Direct
e-newsletter, which features the Photographic Library as the ?Digital
Library of the Week? on the front page of the newsletter.
