(Probationary Faculty Position), MinnesotaStateUniversity, Mankato

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides leadership in the organization, use, and
management of the library’s federal government document and map
collections.  Serves as the resource person for reference service and
provides collection development leadership for these collections.
Develops and implements policies and procedures relating to the document
and map collections.  Supervises processing of government documents
including activities of two library technicians.  Requires active
networking with the government information community on regional, state,
and national levels.  Participates in general reference services to all
campus users.  Works with the instruction coordinator to maintain
continuity in the library’s instruction efforts.  Develops and provides
library instruction sessions for introductory courses, including First
Year Experience and English/Speech 101, and for other courses depending
on subject expertise. Library faculty share in collection development
work with academic departments, in weekend reference rotation, and in
university governance through membership on committees and task forces.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  MLS from an ALA-accredited program.  Recent
experience or coursework with government documents.  Knowledge or
experience of depository library regulations and with government
information in electronic formats including CD-ROMS and web-based
resources.  Demonstrated ability to provide effective instruction
sessions.  Demonstrated supervisory experience.  Demonstrated leadership
ability and good communications skills, both oral and written.  Ability
to provide reference assistance to a diverse user population in a
comprehensive university.  Demonstrated ability to work independently
and collaboratively.  Ability to engage in scholarly and professional
development activities at the level necessary to meet requirements for
tenure and promotion.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: Academic library experience.  Demonstrated ability
to manage and organize a government document collection, print and
electronic.  Experience developing and providing online library
instruction sessions and tutorials.  Collection development experience.
Second subject Master’s degree required for tenure.  Academic
preparation or experience with business or engineering materials. Salary
range:  $38,286 – 46,271 depending on qualifications for a 9-month
appointment.  Additional compensation for summer work may be available.
Starting date: August 23, 2004.
