Greetings & Salutations,

Just wanted to let everyone know (those people who I will be sending maps
to) that I haven't forgotten you. Foolishly enough, I thought
shipping tubes were an item the mail room stocked, but NOOOO, I was
wrong. So now I'm just waiting for them to come in. Hopefully, you
will see them before the end of the summer.

Back in February, I sent a message to the list asking for marketing ideas.
I was pleased with the number of replys and a few people asked that I post
a summary to the list. Here it is:

For reading:
------------
Meridian (ALA MAGERT) no. 5, 1990

Bulletin of the SLA, Geography & Map Division, 1995 or 1996, article based
on a program from the Montreal conference (I could never find the complete
citation although I suspect its

Suggested Marketing Ideas
-------------------------

USE DISPLAY CASES - preferably cabinets that lock - and pick a
topic/theme and build from there. Current events like el Nino and Kosovo
were suggested.

CREATE INFORMATIVE HANDOUT - the who, what, and where of your collection

DISTRIBUTE INFORMATIVE HANDOUT - man a table outside a busy lunchtime
eatery; ask local libraries to display handout; in your own library; in
restrooms (captive crowd)

TALK TO FACULTY MEMBERS - visit with faculty, in groups or one-on-one, and
talk up the collection; make assignment suggestions (or have a few ready)

LOCAL PUBLICATIONS - campus newspaper; faculty/staff newsletter; local,
city newspaper

ON THE WEB - let people know its there with an announcement on library's
Web page; post messages to local newsgroups

Hope that helps. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

Cheers,
Meg
