           Comparing digital map images: Tips and Tricks
           ---------------------------------------------

     At the meeting of the International Society of Curators of Early
     Maps (ISCEM) in Athens recently we had a discussion about map
     images on the Web.  This related to a thread that had run on
     MapHist at the beginning of the year.

     One of the issues that came up was the ability to compare images
     retrieved via the Web, with other Web images or with those already
     stored.  I suggested to Patricia Alkhoven, who made these
     observations, that it might be of general interest if her 'Tips and
     Tricks' were made available to all.

     This has now happened.  I am most grateful to Patricia for
     supplying the text and letting me mount it on the 'Map History /
     History of Cartography' web-page.  You will find it at:

     where it forms part of the 'Internet Resources' section.
