The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC) in Downtown Chicago

Metadata Specialist/Geographic Information Systems Analyst

Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission seeks a Metadata
Specialist/GIS analyst to assist in the ongoing creation of
FGDC-compliant Metadata, to conduct interviews for data cataloging
efforts in Illinois, and to assist in Metadata training.  Individual may
be asked to take on additional GIS responsibilities.  This is a
full-time temporary position beginning in May 2000 and extending at
least through June 2001.

Requires knowledge of geographic concepts & principles; familiarity with
Federal Geographic Data Committee's Content Standards for Digital
Geospatial Metadata; and familiarity and use of the World Wide Web for
posting and retrieval of information.  Prefer 1 year experience with GIS
software, ARC/INFO or ArcView software a plus. Project management
experience a plus.  Requires graduation from college or university
including completion of college level courses in GIS or computer
programming and/or library science or technical writing.  Equivalent
combinations of education and experience will be considered.  This
position requires attention to detail, a pleasant telephone manner,
ability to work with a variety of projects and personnel simultaneously,
and ability to work independently.  Annual salary range: $33K to 37K,
with limited benefits.
