RIVM, the Netherlands, is the National Institute on Public Health and
Environmental Protection in the Netherlands.
 
RIVM and a dutch research institute called TNO are involved in establishing
a global
emission source database
called EDGAR to estimate on a regional and on a gridded (1x1 degree) basis
the base year emissions of greenhouse gases from all major anthropogenic and
biogenic sources. These inventories are based on activity data and emission
factors at the national level,point source data and grid sources and will be
used as input for atmospheric models, as input for scenario models, and for
environmental assessments. This is a project executed in co-operation with
the so-called GEIA programme (a sub-programme of IGBP on emission inventories).
Resulting inventories will be publicly accessible, e.g. through anonymous FTP.
 
 
Data files sought:
1. Global population distribution on 1x1 degree (longitude, latitude) grid:
        absolute value/cell or density (humans/km2 per cell)
        format e.g. per line coordinates and value (e.g. long,lat,value)
        preferably for 1990 (or other recent historical year > 1984)
2. Ibidem for urban population and rural population separately:
        description/definition of "urban" and "rural"
3. Global distribution of number of labourers working in industry and
        service sectors on 1x1 degree (longitude, latitude) grid:
        same format/year as specified under 1.
4. Global distribution of annual Gross Production Value or Value Added (e.g.
        in US$) of industry on 1x1 degree (longitude, latitude) grid:
        same format/year as specified under 1.
5. International shipping routes defined as polygons between all main
        international harbours:
        resolution high enough to be used in 1x1 degree thematic map;
        preferably also with specification of city name/country name of
        departure and destination, and of length per route.
6. Global production data of Adipic Acid per production site:
        name of city, country, annual production capacity or production volume
        in particular data are sought for China, former USSR, Eastern European
        countries, South Africa, Latin America.
