"Book Trip: The Solving of a True Library Mystery"
Author Miles Harvey, The Island of Lost Maps, A Story of Cartographic Crime
(Random House, September 2000), will discuss his four year hunt for details
about the elusive map thief Gilbert Bland, who stole from 17 of America's finest
libraries eluding the FBI and alert librarians. Editor Jonathan Karp, Marcia
Purcell, library marketer and R. Russell Maylone, curator, McCormick Library of
Special Collections, Northwestern University Library, will add their views to
the discussion of the obsessive power of maps and cartographic crime.
