Hi, Barbara -

In late March 1991, there was a conference at UCSB where a guy from Carnegie Mellon present a terrific series of maps from independence to the present. All of their maps were in machine readable form. If somebody has the handouts from that conference (maybe Mary L. could look at or get them from Dr. Tobler or Dr. Goodchild), that should give the name of the guy who did the presentation. As I recall the CMU guy was a history professor, but I was on drugs from a surgery, so that recollection may be wrong.

I don't know whether the NCGIA still has a website. If somebody else knows, perhaps that might be a source of the information.

HTH.
