This is being posted to MAPS-l on behalf of Elizabeth Mangan, Acting
Chief of the Geography and
Map Division at the Library of Congress.

MAPS-L colleagues:

Ralph Ehrenberg, Chief of the Geography and Map Division since 1991, retired from the Library
of Congress on July 30, 1998. Although plans for a retirement party have not been finalized, we invite
you to join with us in recognizing his career, which so intimately involved cartographic and geographic
materials both at the Library of Congress and the National Archives, and his contributions to map
curatorship, history of cartography, and history of discoveries and exploration.

Specifically, we invite you to send us a letter (addressed to Ralph) reflecting on your personal
association with Ralph during his long and productive career. We plan to gather these personal
reminiscences into a specially bound book of letters, which we will present to him as a surprise at a
later date. If you care to participate in this endeavour, please send your contribution by September
15, preferably on standard 8 x 11 inch letter size paper, in an envelope addressed specifically to
Ronald Grim, Specialist in Cartographic History, Geography and Map Division, Washington, DC
20540.

If you have any questions about this request, please contact Ronald Grim by telephone
(202-707-8532), fax (202-707-8531), or e-mail ([log in to unmask]).
