Subject: Digital ortho imagery (NAIP) data available via INSIDE Idaho
Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 11:27:20 -0800 (PST)
From: Lily Wai <[log in to unmask]>

------------------

The NAIP (National Aerial Imagery Program) acquires digital ortho imagery
for agricultural areas during the agricultural growing seasons in the
continental U.S. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Farm Service
Agency (FSA), in cooperation with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS), invited the State of Idaho to participate with the
collection of natural color, digital ortho imagery for 2004 for all land
in Idaho. The data was acquired by shared contributions from many Idaho
state, federal, tribal, private agencies and higher educational
institutions. The data will provide new digital imagery for the state
enterprise GIS framework layer benefiting Idaho agriculture, public
safety, transportation, and other users of spatial data.

NAIP data in the form of preliminary compressed county mosaics (CCMs) are
available for 31 counties in Idaho currently. The remaining counties will
be available for download as they are received from the Aerial Photography
Field Office. These preliminary data are adequate to determine FSA
compliance. But, these preliminary data sets will be reviewed and may be
updated if it is determined they do not meet specifications. Users are
cautioned that these data are preliminary and subject to change.

In the first quarter or 2005, GeoTIFF images spatially organized by 3.75'
x 3.75 quadrangle will be available.

The web link to the NAIP data is at:
