ESRI Distributes Complimentary Copies of Popular Desktop Mapping Technology!
 
ArcView Version 1.0 for Windows Now Available on CompuServe and the Internet
 
February 24, 1995-Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), today
announced the availability of ArcView(r) Version 1.0 for Windows software for no
charge on CompuServe and the Internet.  ArcView Version 1.0 for Windows, first
introduced in 1991, has been very successful as an easy-to-use query and display
tool, with tens of thousands of copies in use around the world today.
 
        While ESRI's newest desktop geographic information system (GIS) software
program, ArcView Version 2.0, makes major and significant advances and sets the
new global standard for desktop GIS technology, many people report they still
find significant utility in ArcView Version 1.0 and would like to continue using
it.  To meet this demand, ESRI has made ArcView Version 1.0 for Windows available
at no charge via CompuServe or the Internet.*  ESRI's goal is to make simple,
easy-to-use desktop mapping and viewing technology available to everyone.
 
        Information and instructions for downloading ArcView Version 1.0 for
Windows from CompuServe or the Internet are available through ESRI's Fax-on-Demand
system.  Interested parties may call 1-909-307-3111, press 1 for ArcView Version 1,
and choose document number 104 for complete details.
 
        As a desktop mapping application, ArcView Version 1.0 for Windows offers an
intuitive, menu-driven user interface; easy access and display of geographic data;
the ability to perform spatial and logical queries on data; cross-network data access;
display and georeferencing of raster image data; and map symbolization and output
capabilities.  People are encouraged to use this technology to increase their
abilities to share georeferenced data with other groups and individuals within their
own organization and with organizations around the world-thus stimulating the use of
geographic and mapping applications on the desktop.  Some specific examples of how

ArcView Version 1.0 for Windows requires digital geographic data in ARC/INFO
