Subject: Rand McNally Commercial Atlas and Marketing Guide

At the University of Florida, we are beginning a project to weed our
collection of older and duplicate atlases. The first items we are reviewing
are the Rand McNally Commercial Atlas and Marketing Guide series for the
last three decades. We are evaluating whether we should keep only those
issues when there was a change in population statistics either from the US
Census or estimates during each decade. I thought there would have been
something written evaluating the usefulness of the publication, which would
save me some time. However, I have been unable to find a review or article
which discusses the difference or lack of differences in this annual
publication. I am looking for evaluative surveys, articles or opinions as
to the usefulness of retaining the Atlas for each year it was published
between 1970 and 2000

I would appreciate any help you might give us. While we need the shelving
space, we are being very cautious in our approach to this weeding project.

Thank you for any assistance you may provide. Helen
