Angie,

I know pretty much everyone who can (and hopefully will) tackle this
question is currently in Orlando attending ALA, so let me get the ball
rolling. If I read your question right you want to know how to treat a
map that has been printed out from either a website or a CD-ROM in terms
of cataloging. I believe that these should be treated as "orginals" and
treated that way, although there is room for argument in terms of the
whole question of this being a reproduction, or even a continuing
resource. One thing leading me in this direction is an example given in
Rule 3.5C3 Production method in the new version of AACR2:

1 map : computer printout, col.

in which this describes a map that has been printed out from its
original source obviously. Treating this type of item as an original
also follows from longstanding LC practice of how to catalog
reproductions, and for that I will simply refer you to the chapter on
Reproductions/Photocopies/Facsimiles in the LC Map Cataloging Manual.
