Mark Monmonier did some work on weather maps, reported in his
1989 Maps with the News book from University of Chicago Press.

More recent work on weather maps on American TV comparing local,
national, public and cable forcasts is in a paper given
to the 1993 ICA: Carter, J. (1993) Weather maps on television in the
USA, ICA Proceedings, 1993, Vol 1, pp244-254

Bob Parry and I discussed weather and media mapping in the UK in
two chapters of our book Mapping the UK, (ISBN 1 85739 030 X) just
published from Bowker Saur.
