Manager, GeoData, Cartographic and GIS Library

*Description:*

East View Cartographic, a world leader in sourcing exotic geospatial
data such as maps and GIS data from countries around the globe, seeks an
experienced GIS librarian to lead and manage its GIS, cartographic, and
GeoData collection, cataloging, indexing.

We serve libraries, governmental, and corporate clients all over the
world. Our customers need high-quality maps and geodata quickly; this
means cataloging and indexing data accurately, efficiently and
completely for both immediate dissemination and future retrieval.
Keeping our customers satisfied is critical to maintaining our position
as the leading provider of geospatial data in the world.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager of the GeoData,
Cartographic and GIS library will fill a critical role in both the
day-to-day tactical operations of EVC and its long term growth strategy.

*Responsibilities:*

· Responsible for all personnel, activities and functions related to the
input, cataloging, indexing, and storage of GIS and cartographic
products and data.

· Responsible for the management, processes, workflow, and access to the
global GIS and cartographic library

· Assess global GIS and cartographic library as a highly effective,
reliable, and accurate source for customer products, resource for
authoritative information, and model of map library efficiency. Create
plans for improvement and lead plans to completion as determined to be
necessary

· International travel where necessary for conferences and customer
visits where necessary or advantageous.

· Map library Management

· Maintain the physical inventory control of the map collection as well
as the journal collection;

· Maintain the physical order of the collection: Paper Collection, CD
Collection as well as digital data on the network;

· Describe the physical filing system and make it accessible to the
other staff;

· Catalog and create GIS index files and generate PDF files for the map
collection

· Library/product Database Management and Maintenance

· Adding data to the ArcSDE product database: creating new data from
source material as well as transforming and migrating data in other
formats, such as MapInfo tab files

· Maintain data and structural integrity and validity of ArcSDE database

· Troubleshoot / resolve data and GIS-related database conflicts and issues

· Oversee and manage to resolution of deeper technical database problems

· Website Development and Support

· Collaborate with peers on proper integration, customization, and
content projection of GIS data on EVC Store

· Collaborate with peers and outside experts where necessary on the
development of ArcIMS

· Personnel:

· Manage and lead growing team of GIS geodata specialists and interns

· Provide day-to-day management of all Ops personnel as necessary

· Evaluate GIS geodata team organizational structure; make staffing and
organizational recommendations as necessary

*Requirements:*

· ALA Accredited MLIS or related degree, or Masters in Geography

· In-depth knowledge of GIS and mapping/geospatial industry is required

· In-depth knowledge and use of GIS software/tools is required

· Minimum 3 years’ professional experience with ArcGIS

· Good understanding of cartographic materials

· Good understanding of Relational Database design and management

· Some understanding of website development

· Technical knowledge of satellite imagery

· Staff supervisory or management experience

· Fluency in at least one foreign language (speaking, reading and writing)

· Highly organized and skilled in time management

· Independent initiative

· Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communications skills

Strong knowledge of ArcSDE and ArcIMS

SQL experience

International business experience

Previous international travel outside of North America is advantageous;
Previous international residency outside of North America is a big plus!
