Kathleen - You might want to investigate the off-gassing phenomenon. In
general that's true, but I recently was reading the scientific biography
of the guy who was primarily responsible for inventing Neupogen (a drug
that makes it easier for cancer patients to boost their immune systems
and to be able to get transplants). He described one of his experiments
which was completely destroyed because the gear they used was not
properly set aside for the off-gassing process to take place.
Apparently, the experiments were not affected when the off-gassing was
allowed to take place over some relatively short period of time like six
weeks or two months. If allowing the off-gassing to happen could happen
with the wood laminate map cases, it may be that she could still get
wood map cases.

On a related topic, you might be interested to know that a number of
bottled water manufacturers fail to allow their bottles to off-gas and
this accounts for the very bitter taste of some brands of bottled
water. Evian (aka Naive spelled backwards) apparently does allow
off-gassing and does not have the bitter taste of other major brands
such as Vittel, Arrowhead, Sparkletts, etc. Brands in glass don't have
this problem.

HTH.
