Dear Ken,

There is a 2009-2010 for Indiana, that we got from INDOT. We had an
e-mail that Connecticut stopped with the 2007 issue. I'll check on the
Florida maps in couple of weeks, when I stop at their welcome center and
let you know.

David

So far as I know, the 2008 Indiana map is the latest one produced. For
Connecticut, you may need to ask someone in the state to pick one up,
they do not distribute theirs except at the information centers on the
interstate highways. But if you have an informant, look as well for a
very nice Connecticut farm map that covers farms, farm markets,
community farmers' markets, and other agricultural retail trade and
tourism.

Finally, I have pending requests of more than 6 weeks duration
(duplicated) for Alabama and California, and Florida. Not on your list,
but also pending, are Wisconsin and Wyoming.

We are cataloging our backlog of state and city maps from our library
annex. This is just one part of over 400,000 maps and aerial photographs
we hold. We have a state of the art scanning facility in the Library
and one of the leading Geography departments. We began this project with
Alabama and have worked our way up to New Jersey at this point in time.
DOTs were contacted last year, and large map collections this year, when
attempting to "backfill" our official state highway map collections. We
had some very interesting searches, by statewide networks, looking in
automobile glove compartments, and chance encounters . We had great
success with several states and none at all with others. Some states
had, in the last 2 years, recycled all their old editions and some still
had extensive stocks of maps on hand.

What we would like to do is ask the list, from time to time, about
official maps for states that we could not find. We know that we have
back files of other state official and AAA highway maps that we would be
willing to share. We also have many back editions of the South Carolina
Official Transportation map that we can share. We know that many of
these maps can be accessed online as PDFs, but we are working on our
paper map collection. When this project is completed, we hope to link
to those PDFs for maps that we are missing.

This list is a little long. In the future I will do a state or two at a
time. These are dates we are missing, some may be combined dates. i.e.
2000-2001, 1994-1996, etc.

Our holdings go back to the 1940s and in some cases the 1930s, so if you
have older maps, they might be helpful as well.

Thank you for taking the time to check. I have New York next and other
large states like North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and
Texas, so this will be a long-term project.

I hope, also, that this might awaken an interest in other states
(provinces or countries) to complete their back files of certain paper
maps so there is back-up for our growing and necessary digital
collections.
