On November 19th, Edward Thatcher, the long time Science and Map Libarian at
the University of Oregon, passed away from age related causes. He was 85.

In his years at the University, Ed worked very hard to lay the current
foundations for the current UO Map collection, which today ranks as one of
the largest in the United States. Ed was also a co-founder of WAML, which
has made tremendous strides in promoting map librarianship and encouraging
cooperation among map libraries in the United States and Canada.
