We're a US library that used to be a Canadian map depository. At least,
I had heard that the depository program was defunct for foreign
libraries (if not even for Canadian libraries).

We just received a shipment (shipped Oct 3) listing our depository
client number on the packing slip. "Your Purchase Order Number" was
listed as "depository." What's really strange is that this is a
shipment of 1:50,000 quadrangles. We haven't gotten those for many
years (only 1:250,000 and smaller scale stuff like indexes in recent
years). About three years ago (before the depository shipping payment
was due in 1999) they informed us that due to so few maps at these small
scales being updated and shipped, they were suspending the annual fee
for 3 years. We only got 10-20 maps in those 2 years, mostly indexes
and small scale maps (e.g., parliamentary elections), with a few
1:250,000 quads.

Even more bizarre is that this selection of 16 maps includes scattered
sheets on their "New and Revised Maps" lists from January and September.
We got scattered sheets from these lists (not necessarily all sheets),
and a mixture of 8 new sheets and 8 revised sheets. I couldn't see any
pattern at all with respect to provinces, either. In the past, the
shipments matched the New and Revised Maps lists (e.g., they'd send us
everything on the list at 1:250,000 or smaller and only in paper, not
Tyvek).

Did anyone else get this? Is the foreign depository program back in
business, or was this someone's mistake? Should we send in our annual
depository membership fee (CDN$75)?

Thanks,
        Mark
