There is not a lot of documentation about these towns during ottoman
period. Your student can find two plans of Skopje in :

A. Yerolympos, Urban transformation in the Balkans (1820-1920),
Thessaloniki, Univ. Press, 1996

A graduate student at our university is studying the urban history of
the Macedonian cities Skopje and Bitola, in the context of a master
thesis. The research is rather complicated, due to the apparant lack of
(or not yet revealed) historical maps for these towns in the period of
the Ottoman Empire (untill +- 1907) and in the following period, more
specifically until the end of WWI. Our lack of expertise on the region,
directs me to this mailing list.
Would anyone be willing to point out the archives to research, an expert
to consult, or -worst case scenario- justify why these historical city
plans are so hard to find or possibly do not exist ?

Best regards,
