Dear Colleagues,

A new functionality of the website /CartoMundi –/ dedicated to promotion
of the Cartographic Heritage – has been available for a few days now. It
allows to search documents by geographical location, to get their
description, their call numbers in different map libraries... It also
allows to display reproductions of several documents.

http://cartomundi.eu <http://cartomundi.eu/>/ Find / By geographic location

You will find references for about 50 cartographic series which
represent different places in the world (with a tropism for Central
Europe and Balkan), at different scales and dates.

For the reproductions, you have three choices:

- the 63 sheets of the map of Africa published at the end of the 19^th
century by R. Lannoy de Bissy,

- the 25 sheets of the geological map of France (south-east) at scale
1:50 000,

- at the same scale, surroundings of Alexandria at the beginning of the
20^th century.

The tools of the shared platform to manage and integrate new data are
under development. They will be availablein a few weeks. The website
also has a lot of information about /CartoMundi/ and its future.

This event occurs a few days before the 25^th Congress of the
International Cartographic Association, which will be held in Paris from
the 4^th to the 8^th of July.

During this congress, there will be several conferences about
/CartoMundi/. The programme will be presented at a stand of the Congress
exhibition and at the French National Library, in the context of the
exhibition “Estivales Africaines”.

I hope you will be convinced by these new functionalities.

Jean-Luc Arnaud.

Head of /CartoMundi/
