Subject: artists and Gov mapping

Hi,
My department's putting up an exhibit of US Gov't pubs that feature work done by future or otherwise
famous artists, illustrators, etc. For example, we've got docs illustrated by Will Eisner, Al Capp,
and Walt Kelly, as well as photography taken by Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange on behalf of the gov't.

Does anybody know if US Gov't-produced maps/charts have ever featured work--cartography,
illustration, etching, etc.--done by otherwise well known artists? I know about James Whistler's
brief Coast Survey career, and have several War Dep't Newsmaps that feature illustrations by Dr.
Seuss and others (e.g., http://digital.library.unt.edu/permalink/meta-dc-951:2).

I know the theme's a little fuzzy, but if anybody has add'l suggestions or ideas, I'm all ears.
